The 2007 Annual Town Meetings of Ayer, Lunenburg, and Shirley each established a School Regionalization Planning Committee. By law, each Committee has three members, appointed by the Town Moderator. One member must be on the School Committee. Consistent with Chapter 71, the three Committees met in May 2007 and voted to merge into a single School Regionalization Planning Board to investigate the challenges and benefits of forming a school region between any two or among all three towns. By law, our job is to study and make a recommendation about forming a region to the Boards of Selectmen. If a School Region is recommended, the Board must submit a Regional Agreement with the recommendation. A Region can only be established by majority vote of each of the members’ Town Meetings. The Board holds posted, open meetings. The meeting site rotates among the three towns. See the Calendar for currently posted meetings
